How to Resize an Image Without Losing Quality
Resizing an image well comes down to one rule: you can safely make an image smaller, but making it larger than its original size always loses sharpness.
Keep the proportions
Stretching an image to a different width-to-height ratio than the original distorts it u2014 faces widen, circles turn into ovals. Whenever you resize, keep the width and height locked to the same proportion as the original.
Shrinking is safe, enlarging is not
Reducing a large photo down to a smaller size looks sharp because there is detail to spare. Enlarging a small image beyond its original pixel dimensions has nothing extra to work with, so software has to guess at the missing detail, which is what causes blur.
Resizing as part of a PDF
If your goal is a smaller PDF rather than a resized image file, you do not need a separate resizing step u2014 our Image to PDF toolu2019s Image Quality setting scales large photos down automatically while keeping the layout you chose.
